Same Sex Marriage Should Be Granted - 1473 Words

If you search the definition of the word marriage, this is what comes up: â€Å"The formal union of a man and a woman, typically recognized by law, by which they become husband and wife.† Myself, and many other people have a problem with this definition. Same sex marriage is outlawed in 33 states, and the reasonings for that just aren’t good enough for the large majority to except. Homosexual couples should be granted the right to marry. Something as miniscule as who you’re sexually attracted to shouldn’t take away a right as basic as marriage. Falling in love with someone and marrying them is a normal thing between couples. Finding someone who loves you just as much as you love them is an amazing feeling and it makes people really†¦show more content†¦With that being said, the divorce rate is very high. People who get highly intoxicated and accidentally married fight their very hardest to get a divorce and it is always, always granted to them. Ma ybe the high divorce rate is beginning to dilute what marriage used to mean, which is love. If a man and woman who do not care for each other at all can meet and get married in the same night, why can’t two people of the same sex who love each other get married? And while these inebriated straight couples battle for divorce, some desperate gay couples fight for the chance to legally be together. I honestly believe gay couples are fighting a nobler battle. Another big debate when it comes gay marriage is gay couples trying to raise children. Some people who become married desire to extend their family with children. Raising a child and bringing up another person in this world is a gift that many people wish to share, especially with the person they love. Many view gay couples raising children as completely outrageous and bad for the child. That statement doesn’t really make sense to me. It crazy how something like sex impacts peoples view on raising children. That after all is the difference between gay and straight people. In the article What s Marriage (and Family) Got to Do with It?, Amy Becker argues that gay people raising children affects people’s attitude on the matter. With changing attitudes toward marriage comes changing attitudes toward the American family.
